Haunted by a dark childhood and teenage issues with substance abuse, Nick turned to lifting in high school as the only way he felt he could get himself on a better path. He entered his first amateur competition right after graduating and finished terribly. Yet, when on stage, hearing the crowd cheer him on, he says it was the first time he ever felt proud of himself. That was the spark he needed to fully dedicate himself to the sport, culminating in winning the 2021 Arnold Classic in his debut.
